My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
| 3 Si clamares a la inteligencia,
Y a la prudencia dieres tu voz; | 3 ja, wenn du nach Vernunft rufst und deine Stimme nach Einsicht erhebst, |

If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
| 4 Si como a la plata la buscares,
Y la escudriñares como a tesoros, | 4 wenn du sie suchst wie Silber und nach ihr forschest wie nach Schätzen: |

Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
| 5 Entonces entenderás el temor de Jehová,
Y hallarás el conocimiento de Dios. | 5 dann wirst du die Furcht des HERRN verstehen und die Erkenntnis Gottes finden. |

For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
| 6 Porque Jehová da la sabiduría,
Y de su boca viene el conocimiento y la inteligencia. | 6 Denn der HERR gibt Weisheit, und aus seinem Munde kommt Erkenntnis und Einsicht. |

He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
| 7 El provee de sana sabiduría a los rectos;
Es escudo a los que caminan rectamente. | 7 Er läßt es den Aufrichtigen gelingen und beschirmt die Frommen. |

He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.
| 8 Es el que guarda las veredas del juicio,
Y preserva el camino de sus santos. | 8 Er behütet, die recht tun, und bewahrt den Weg seiner Frommen. |

Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.
| 9 Entonces entenderás justicia, juicio
Y equidad, y todo buen camino. | 9 Dann wirst du verstehen Gerechtigkeit und Recht und Frömmigkeit und jeden guten Weg. |

When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;
| 10 Cuando la sabiduría entrare en tu corazón,
Y la ciencia fuere grata a tu alma, | 10 Denn Weisheit wird in dein Herz eingehen, und Erkenntnis wird deiner Seele lieblich sein, |

Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:
| 11 La discreción te guardará;
Te preservará la inteligencia, | 11 Besonnenheit wird dich bewahren und Einsicht dich behüten, - |

To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;
| 12 Para librarte del mal camino,
De los hombres que hablan perversidades, | 12 daß du nicht geratest auf den Weg der Bösen noch unter Leute, die Falsches reden, |

Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;
| 13 Que dejan los caminos derechos,
Para andar por sendas tenebrosas; | 13 die da verlassen die rechte Bahn und gehen finstere Wege, |

Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;
| 14 Que se alegran haciendo el mal,
Que se huelgan en las perversidades del vicio; | 14 die sich freuen, Böses zu tun, und sind fröhlich über böse Ränke, |

Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:
| 15 Cuyas veredas son torcidas,
Y torcidos sus caminos. | 15 die krumme Wege gehen und auf Abwege kommen, - |

To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;
| 16 Serás librado de la mujer extraña,
De la ajena que halaga con sus palabras, | 16 daß du nicht geratest an die Frau eines andern, an eine Fremde, die glatte Worte gibt |

Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.
| 17 La cual abandona al compañero de su juventud,
Y se olvida del pacto de su Dios. | 17 und verläßt den Gefährten ihrer Jugend und vergißt den Bund ihres Gottes; |

For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.
| 18 Por lo cual su casa está inclinada a la muerte,
Y sus veredas hacia los muertos; | 18 denn ihr Haus neigt sich zum Tode und ihre Wege zum Ort der Toten; |

None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.
| 19 Todos los que a ella se lleguen, no volverán,
Ni seguirán otra vez los senderos de la vida. | 19 alle, die zu ihr eingehen, kommen nicht wieder und erreichen den Weg des Lebens nicht, - |

That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.
| 20 Así andarás por el camino de los buenos,
Y seguirás las veredas de los justos; | 20 daß du wandelst auf dem Wege der Guten und bleibst auf der Bahn der Gerechten; |

For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.
| 21 Porque los rectos habitarán la tierra,
Y los perfectos permanecerán en ella, | 21 denn die Gerechten werden im Lande wohnen und die Frommen darin bleiben, |

But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it. | 22 Mas los impíos serán cortados de la tierra,
Y los prevaricadores serán de ella desarraigados. | 22 aber die Gottlosen werden aus dem Land ausgerottet und die Treulosen daraus vertilgt. |
