In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,

And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

Preparad el camino del Señor,

And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.

Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,
| 5 Y salía a él Jerusalén, y toda Judea, y toda la provincia de alrededor del Jordán, | 5 Da ging zu ihm hinaus die Stadt Jerusalem und ganz Judäa und alle Länder am Jordan |

And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.
| 6 y eran bautizados por él en el Jordán, confesando sus pecados. | 6 und ließen sich taufen von ihm im Jordan und bekannten ihre Sünden. |

But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
| 7 Al ver él que muchos de los fariseos y de los saduceos venían a su bautismo, les decía: ¡Generación de víboras! ¿Quién os enseñó a huir de la ira venidera? | 7 Als er nun viele Pharisäer und Sadduzäer sah zu seiner Taufe kommen, sprach er zu ihnen: Ihr Schlangenbrut, wer hat denn euch gewiß gemacht, daß ihr dem künftigen Zorn entrinnen werdet? |

Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
| 8 Haced, pues, frutos dignos de arrepentimiento, | 8 Seht zu, bringt rechtschaffene Frucht der Buße! |

And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
| 9 y no penséis decir dentro de vosotros mismos: A Abraham tenemos por padre; porque yo os digo que Dios puede levantar hijos a Abraham aun de estas piedras. | 9 Denkt nur nicht, daß ihr bei euch sagen könntet: Wir haben Abraham zum Vater. Denn ich sage euch: Gott vermag dem Abraham aus diesen Steinen Kinder zu erwecken. |

And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
| 10 Y ya también el hacha está puesta a la raíz de los árboles; por tanto, todo árbol que no da buen fruto es cortado y echado en el fuego. | 10 Es ist schon die Axt den Bäumen an die Wurzel gelegt. Darum: jeder Baum, der nicht gute Frucht bringt, wird abgehauen und ins Feuer geworfen. |

I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
| 11 Yo a la verdad os bautizo en agua para arrepentimiento; pero el que viene tras mí, cuyo calzado yo no soy digno de llevar, es más poderoso que yo; él os bautizará en Espíritu Santo y fuego. | 11 Ich taufe euch mit Wasser zur Buße; der aber nach mir kommt, ist stärker als ich, und ich bin nicht wert, ihm die Schuhe zu tragen; der wird euch mit dem heiligen Geist und mit Feuer taufen. |

Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
| 12 Su aventador está en su mano, y limpiará su era; y recogerá su trigo en el granero, y quemará la paja en fuego que nunca se apagará. | 12 Er hat seine Worfschaufel in der Hand; er wird seine Tenne fegen und seinen Weizen in die Scheune sammeln; aber die Spreu wird er verbrennen mit unauslöschlichem Feuer. |

Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
| 13 Entonces Jesús vino de Galilea a Juan al Jordán, para ser bautizado por él. | 13 Zu der Zeit kam Jesus aus Galiläa an den Jordan zu Johannes, daß er sich von ihm taufen ließe. |

But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
| 14 Mas Juan se le oponía, diciendo: Yo necesito ser bautizado por ti, ¿y tú vienes a mí? | 14 Aber Johannes wehrte ihm und sprach: Ich bedarf dessen, daß ich von dir getauft werde, und du kommst zu mir?a |

And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
| 15 Pero Jesús le respondió: Deja ahora, porque así conviene que cumplamos toda justicia. Entonces le dejó. | 15 Jesus aber antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Laß es jetzt geschehen! Denn so gebührt es uns, alle Gerechtigkeit zu erfüllen. Da ließ er's geschehen. |

And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
| 16 Y Jesús, después que fue bautizado, subió luego del agua; y he aquí los cielos le fueron abiertos, y vio al Espíritu de Dios que descendía como paloma, y venía sobre él. | 16 Und als Jesus getauft war, stieg er alsbald herauf aus dem Wasser. Und siehe, da tat sich ihm der Himmel auf, und er sah den Geist Gottes wie eine Taube herabfahren und über sich kommen. |

And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. | 17 Y hubo una voz de los cielos, que decía: Este es mi Hijo amado, en quien tengo complacencia. | 17 Und siehe, eine Stimme vom Himmel herab sprach: Dies ist mein lieber Sohn, an dem ich Wohlgefallen habe. |
