And Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem unto his mother's brethren, and communed with them, and with all the family of the house of his mother's father, saying,

Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, Whether is better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, which are threescore and ten persons, reign over you, or that one reign over you? remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.
| 2 Yo os ruego que digáis en oídos de todos los de Siquem: ¿Qué os parece mejor, que os gobiernen setenta hombres, todos los hijos de Jerobaal, o que os gobierne un solo hombre? Acordaos que yo soy hueso vuestro, y carne vuestra. | 2 Redet doch vor den Ohren aller Männer von Sichem: Was ist euch besser, daß siebzig Männer, alle die Söhne Jerubbaals, über euch Herrscher seien oder daß ein Mann über euch Herrscher sei? And his mother's brethren spake of him in the ears of all the men of Shechem all these words: and their hearts inclined to follow Abimelech; for they said, He is our brother.
| 3 Y hablaron por él los hermanos de su madre en oídos de todos los de Siquem todas estas palabras; y el corazón de ellos se inclinó a favor de Abimelec, porque decían: Nuestro hermano es. | 3 Da redeten die Brüder seiner Mutter seinetwegen alle diese Worte vor den Ohren aller Männer von Sichem. Und ihr Herz neigte sich Abimelech zu; denn sie dachten: Er ist unser Bruder. |

And they gave him threescore and ten pieces of silver out of the house of Baal-berith, wherewith Abimelech hired vain and light persons, which followed him.
| 4 Y le dieron setenta siclos de plata del templo de Baal-berit, con los cuales Abimelec alquiló hombres ociosos y vagabundos, que le siguieron. | 4 Und sie gaben ihm siebzig Silberstücke aus dem Tempel des Baal-Berit. Und Abimelech warb damit lose, verwegene Männer an, die ihm nachfolgten. |

And he went unto his father's house at Ophrah, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal, being threescore and ten persons, upon one stone: notwithstanding yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he hid himself.
| 5 Y viniendo a la casa de su padre en Ofra, mató a sus hermanos los hijos de Jerobaal, setenta varones, sobre una misma piedra; pero quedó Jotam el hijo menor de Jerobaal, que se escondió. | 5 Und er kam in das Haus seines Vaters nach Ofra und tötete seine Brüder, die Söhne Jerubbaals, siebzig Mann, auf einem Stein. Es blieb aber übrig Jotam, der jüngste Sohn Jerubbaals; denn er hatte sich versteckt. |

And all the men of Shechem gathered together, and all the house of Millo, and went, and made Abimelech king, by the plain of the pillar that was in Shechem.
| 6 Entonces se juntaron todos los de Siquem con toda la casa de Milo, y fueron y eligieron a Abimelec por rey, cerca de la llanura del pilar que estaba en Siquem. | 6 Und es versammelten sich alle Männer von Sichem und alle Bewohner des Millo, gingen hin und machten Abimelech zum König bei der Eiche am Steinmal von Sichem. |

And when they told it to Jotham, he went and stood in the top of mount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice, and cried, and said unto them, Hearken unto me, ye men of Shechem, that God may hearken unto you.

The trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them; and they said unto the olive tree, Reign thou over us.
| 8 Fueron una vez los árboles a elegir rey sobre sí, y dijeron al olivo: Reina sobre nosotros. | 8 Die Bäume gingen hin, um einen König über sich zu salben, und sprachen zum Ölbaum: Sei unser König! |

But the olive tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, wherewith by me they honour God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?
| 9 Mas el olivo respondió: ¿He de dejar mi aceite, con el cual en mí se honra a Dios y a los hombres, para ir a ser grande sobre los árboles? | 9 Aber der Ölbaum antwortete ihnen: Soll ich meine Fettigkeit lassen, die Götter und Menschen an mir preisen, und hingehen, über den Bäumen zu schweben? |

And the trees said to the fig tree, Come thou, and reign over us.

But the fig tree said unto them, Should I forsake my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees?
| 11 Y respondió la higuera: ¿He de dejar mi dulzura y mi buen fruto, para ir a ser grande sobre los árboles? | 11 Aber der Feigenbaum sprach zu ihnen: Soll ich meine Süßigkeit und meine gute Frucht lassen und hingehen, über den Bäumen zu schweben? |

Then said the trees unto the vine, Come thou, and reign over us.

And the vine said unto them, Should I leave my wine, which cheereth God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?
| 13 Y la vid les respondió: ¿He de dejar mi mosto, que alegra a Dios y a los hombres, para ir a ser grande sobre los árboles? | 13 Aber der Weinstock sprach zu ihnen: Soll ich meinen Wein lassen, der Götter und Menschen fröhlich macht, und hingehen, über den Bäumen zu schweben? |

Then said all the trees unto the bramble, Come thou, and reign over us.

And the bramble said unto the trees, If in truth ye anoint me king over you, then come and put your trust in my shadow: and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.
| 15 Y la zarza respondió a los árboles: Si en verdad me elegís por rey sobre vosotros, venid, abrigaos bajo de mi sombra; y si no, salga fuego de la zarza y devore a los cedros del Líbano. | 15 Und der Dornbusch sprach zu den Bäumen: Ist's wahr, daß ihr mich zum König über euch salben wollt, so kommt und bergt euch in meinem Schatten; wenn nicht, so gehe Feuer vom Dornbusch aus und verzehre die Zedern Libanons. |

Now therefore, if ye have done truly and sincerely, in that ye have made Abimelech king, and if ye have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done unto him according to the deserving of his hands;
| 16 Ahora, pues, si con verdad y con integridad habéis procedido en hacer rey a Abimelec, y si habéis actuado bien con Jerobaal y con su casa, | 16 Habt ihr nun recht und redlich getan, daß ihr Abimelech zum König gemacht habt? Und habt ihr wohlgetan an Jerubbaal und an seinem Hause, und habt ihr ihm getan, wie er's um euch verdient hat? |

(For my father fought for you, and adventured his life far, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian:
| 17 (porque mi padre peleó por vosotros, y expuso su vida al peligro para libraros de mano de Madián, | 17 Denn mein Vater hat für euch gekämpft und sein Leben gewagt, um euch aus der Hand der Midianiter zu erretten. |

And ye are risen up against my father's house this day, and have slain his sons, threescore and ten persons, upon one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his maidservant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother;)
| 18 y vosotros os habéis levantado hoy contra la casa de mi padre, y habéis matado a sus hijos, setenta varones sobre una misma piedra; y habéis puesto por rey sobre los de Siquem a Abimelec hijo de su criada, por cuanto es vuestro hermano); | 18 Aber ihr habt euch heute gegen meines Vaters Haus aufgelehnt und seine Söhne getötet, siebzig Mann auf einem Stein, und habt Abimelech, seiner Magd Sohn, zum König über die Männer von Sichem gemacht, weil er euer Bruder ist. |

If ye then have dealt truly and sincerely with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, then rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you:
| 19 si con verdad y con integridad habéis procedido hoy con Jerobaal y con su casa, que gocéis de Abimelec, y él goce de vosotros. | 19 Habt ihr nun heute recht und redlich gehandelt an Jerubbaal und an seinem Hause, so seid fröhlich über Abimelech, und er sei fröhlich über euch. |

But if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the men of Shechem, and the house of Millo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem, and from the house of Millo, and devour Abimelech.

And Jotham ran away, and fled, and went to Beer, and dwelt there, for fear of Abimelech his brother.
| 21 Y escapó Jotam y huyó, y se fue a Beer, y allí se estuvo por miedo de Abimelec su hermano. | 21 Und Jotam floh vor seinem Bruder Abimelech und entwich und ging nach Beer und wohnte dort. |

When Abimelech had reigned three years over Israel,
| 22 Después que Abimelec hubo dominado sobre Israel tres años, | 22 Als nun Abimelech drei Jahre über Israel geherrscht hatte, |

Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:

That the cruelty done to the threescore and ten sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood be laid upon Abimelech their brother, which slew them; and upon the men of Shechem, which aided him in the killing of his brethren.
| 24 para que la violencia hecha a los setenta hijos de Jerobaal, y la sangre de ellos, recayera sobre Abimelec su hermano que los mató, y sobre los hombres de Siquem que fortalecieron las manos de él para matar a sus hermanos. | 24 damit der Frevel an den siebzig Söhnen Jerubbaals und ihr Blut käme auf Abimelech, ihren Bruder, der sie getötet hatte, und auf die Männer von Sichem, die ihm seine Hand dazu gestärkt hatten, daß er seine Brüder tötete. |

And the men of Shechem set liers in wait for him in the top of the mountains, and they robbed all that came along that way by them: and it was told Abimelech.
| 25 Y los de Siquem pusieron en las cumbres de los montes asechadores que robaban a todos los que pasaban junto a ellos por el camino; de lo cual fue dado aviso a Abimelec. | 25 Und die Männer von Sichem legten einen Hinterhalt auf den Höhen der Berge und beraubten alle, die auf der Straße bei ihnen vorüberkamen. Und es wurde Abimelech angesagt. |

And Gaal the son of Ebed came with his brethren, and went over to Shechem: and the men of Shechem put their confidence in him.
| 26 Y Gaal hijo de Ebed vino con sus hermanos y se pasaron a Siquem, y los de Siquem pusieron en él su confianza. | 26 Es kamen aber Gaal, der Sohn Ebeds, und seine Brüder und zogen in Sichem ein. Und die Männer von Sichem verließen sich auf ihn |

And they went out into the fields, and gathered their vineyards, and trode the grapes, and made merry, and went into the house of their god, and did eat and drink, and cursed Abimelech.
| 27 Y saliendo al campo, vendimiaron sus viñedos, y pisaron la uva e hicieron fiesta; y entrando en el templo de sus dioses, comieron y bebieron, y maldijeron a Abimelec. | 27 und zogen hinaus aufs Feld und ernteten ihre Weinberge ab und kelterten und hielten ein Freudenfest und gingen in das Haus ihres Gottes, aßen und tranken und fluchten dem Abimelech. |

And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? is not he the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: for why should we serve him?
| 28 Y Gaal hijo de Ebed dijo: ¿Quién es Abimelec, y qué es Siquem, para que nosotros le sirvamos? ¿No es hijo de Jerobaal, y no es Zebul ayudante suyo? Servid a los varones de Hamor padre de Siquem; pero ¿por qué le hemos de servir a él? | 28 Und Gaal, der Sohn Ebeds, sprach: Wer ist Abimelech, und wer ist denn dieser Sichemiter, daß wir ihm dienen sollten? Ist er nicht Jerubbaals Sohn und hat Sebul, seinen Vogt, hergesetzt? Dienet den Leuten Hamors, des Vaters von Sichem! Warum sollten wir jenem dienen? |

And would to God this people were under my hand! then would I remove Abimelech. And he said to Abimelech, Increase thine army, and come out.
| 29 Ojalá estuviera este pueblo bajo mi mano, pues yo arrojaría luego a Abimelec, y diría a Abimelec: Aumenta tus ejércitos, y sal. | 29 Wollte Gott, das Volk wäre unter meiner Hand, so würde ich den Abimelech vertreiben und ihm sagen: Mehre dein Heer und zieh in den Kampf ! |

And when Zebul the ruler of the city heard the words of Gaal the son of Ebed, his anger was kindled.
| 30 Cuando Zebul gobernador de la ciudad oyó las palabras de Gaal hijo de Ebed, se encendió en ira, | 30 Als aber Sebul, der Stadthauptmann, die Worte Gaals, des Sohnes Ebeds, hörte, entbrannte sein Zorn, |

And he sent messengers unto Abimelech privily, saying, Behold, Gaal the son of Ebed and his brethren be come to Shechem; and, behold, they fortify the city against thee.
| 31 y envió secretamente mensajeros a Abimelec, diciendo: He aquí que Gaal hijo de Ebed y sus hermanos han venido a Siquem, y he aquí que están sublevando la ciudad contra ti. | 31 und er sandte heimlich Botschaft zu Abimelech und ließ ihm sagen: Siehe, Gaal, der Sohn Ebeds, und seine Brüder sind nach Sichem gekommen und machen dir die Stadt aufrührerisch. |

Now therefore up by night, thou and the people that is with thee, and lie in wait in the field:
| 32 Levántate, pues, ahora de noche, tú y el pueblo que está contigo, y pon emboscadas en el campo. | 32 So mach dich nun auf bei Nacht, du und dein Volk, das bei dir ist, und lege einen Hinterhalt im Felde. |

And it shall be, that in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, thou shalt rise early, and set upon the city: and, behold, when he and the people that is with him come out against thee, then mayest thou do to them as thou shalt find occasion.
| 33 Y por la mañana al salir el sol madruga y cae sobre la ciudad; y cuando él y el pueblo que está con él salgan contra ti, tú harás con él según se presente la ocasión. | 33 Und am Morgen, wenn die Sonne aufgeht, mache dich auf und überfalle die Stadt. Und wenn er und das Volk, das bei ihm ist, gegen dich hinauszieht, so tu mit ihm, wie du es vermagst. |

And Abimelech rose up, and all the people that were with him, by night, and they laid wait against Shechem in four companies.
| 34 Levantándose, pues, de noche Abimelec y todo el pueblo que con él estaba, pusieron emboscada contra Siquem con cuatro compañías. | 34 Abimelech machte sich auf bei Nacht und alles Volk, das bei ihm war, und sie legten einen Hinterhalt gegen Sichem mit vier Heerhaufen. |

And Gaal the son of Ebed went out, and stood in the entering of the gate of the city: and Abimelech rose up, and the people that were with him, from lying in wait.
| 35 Y Gaal hijo de Ebed salió, y se puso a la entrada de la puerta de la ciudad; y Abimelec y todo el pueblo que con él estaba, se levantaron de la emboscada. | 35 Und Gaal, der Sohn Ebeds, zog heraus und trat vor das Stadttor. Aber Abimelech machte sich auf aus dem Hinterhalt samt dem Volk, das mit ihm war. |

And when Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul, Behold, there come people down from the top of the mountains. And Zebul said unto him, Thou seest the shadow of the mountains as if they were men.
| 36 Y viendo Gaal al pueblo, dijo a Zebul: He allí gente que desciende de las cumbres de los montes. Y Zebul le respondió: Tú ves la sombra de los montes como si fueran hombres. | 36 Als nun Gaal das Volk sah, sprach er zu Sebul: Siehe, da kommt Kriegsvolk von der Höhe des Gebirges herab. Sebul aber sprach zu ihm: Du siehst die Schatten der Berge für Leute an. |

And Gaal spake again and said, See there come people down by the middle of the land, and another company come along by the plain of Meonenim.
| 37 Volvió Gaal a hablar, y dijo: He allí gente que desciende de en medio de la tierra, y una tropa viene por el camino de la encina de los adivinos. | 37 Gaal redete noch weiter und sprach: Siehe, Kriegsvolk kommt herab vom Nabel der Erde*, und ein Heerhaufe kommt daher auf dem Wege von der Zaubereiche. |

Then said Zebul unto him, Where is now thy mouth, wherewith thou saidst, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him? is not this the people that thou hast despised? go out, I pray now, and fight with them.
| 38 Y Zebul le respondió: ¿Dónde está ahora tu boca con que decías: ¿Quién es Abimelec para que le sirvamos? ¿No es este el pueblo que tenías en poco? Sal pues, ahora, y pelea con él. | 38 Da sprach Sebul zu ihm: Wo ist nun dein Maul, das da sagte: Wer ist Abimelech, daß wir ihm dienen sollten? Ist das nicht das Kriegsvolk, das du verachtet hast? Zieh nun hin und kämpfe mit ihm! |

And Gaal went out before the men of Shechem, and fought with Abimelech.
| 39 Y Gaal salió delante de los de Siquem, y peleó contra Abimelec. | 39 Gaal zog aus vor den Männern von Sichem her und kämpfte mit Abimelech. |

And Abimelech chased him, and he fled before him, and many were overthrown and wounded, even unto the entering of the gate.
| 40 Mas lo persiguió Abimelec, y Gaal huyó delante de él; y cayeron heridos muchos hasta la entrada de la puerta. | 40 Aber Abimelech jagte ihm nach, daß er vor ihm floh, und viele blieben erschlagen liegen bis an das Tor. |

And Abimelech dwelt at Arumah: and Zebul thrust out Gaal and his brethren, that they should not dwell in Shechem.
| 41 Y Abimelec se quedó en Aruma; y Zebul echó fuera a Gaal y a sus hermanos, para que no morasen en Siquem. | 41 Und Abimelech blieb in Aruma. Sebul aber verjagte den Gaal und seine Brüder, so daß sie in Sichem nicht bleiben konnten. |

And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people went out into the field; and they told Abimelech.
| 42 Aconteció el siguiente día, que el pueblo salió al campo; y fue dado aviso a Abimelec, | 42 Am Morgen aber ging das Volk heraus aufs Feld. Als das Abimelech angesagt wurde, |

And he took the people, and divided them into three companies, and laid wait in the field, and looked, and, behold, the people were come forth out of the city; and he rose up against them, and smote them.
| 43 el cual, tomando gente, la repartió en tres compañías, y puso emboscadas en el campo; y cuando miró, he aquí el pueblo que salía de la ciudad; y se levantó contra ellos y los atacó. | 43 nahm er das Kriegsvolk, teilte es in drei Heerhaufen und legte einen Hinterhalt im Feld. Als er nun sah, daß das Volk aus der Stadt ging, erhob er sich gegen sie und erschlug sie. |

And Abimelech, and the company that was with him, rushed forward, and stood in the entering of the gate of the city: and the two other companies ran upon all the people that were in the fields, and slew them.
| 44 Porque Abimelec y la compañía que estaba con él acometieron con ímpetu, y se detuvieron a la entrada de la puerta de la ciudad, y las otras dos compañías acometieron a todos los que estaban en el campo, y los mataron. | 44 Abimelech und der Heerhaufe, der bei ihm war, überfielen sie und stellten sich am Stadttor auf. Die beiden andern Heerhaufen aber überfielen alle, die auf dem Felde waren, und erschlugen sie. |

And Abimelech fought against the city all that day; and he took the city, and slew the people that was therein, and beat down the city, and sowed it with salt.
| 45 Y Abimelec peleó contra la ciudad todo aquel día, y tomó la ciudad, y mató al pueblo que en ella estaba; y asoló la ciudad, y la sembró de sal. | 45 So kämpfte Abimelech gegen die Stadt den ganzen Tag und eroberte sie und tötete das Volk, das darin war, und zerstörte die Stadt und streute Salz darauf. |

And when all the men of the tower of Shechem heard that, they entered into an hold of the house of the god Berith.
| 46 Cuando oyeron esto todos los que estaban en la torre de Siquem, se metieron en la fortaleza del templo del dios Berit. | 46 Als das alle Männer der Burg von Sichem hörten, gingen sie in das Gewölbe des Tempels des Baal-Berit. |

And it was told Abimelech, that all the men of the tower of Shechem were gathered together.

And Abimelech gat him up to mount Zalmon, he and all the people that were with him; and Abimelech took an axe in his hand, and cut down a bough from the trees, and took it, and laid it on his shoulder, and said unto the people that were with him, What ye have seen me do, make haste, and do as I have done.

And all the people likewise cut down every man his bough, and followed Abimelech, and put them to the hold, and set the hold on fire upon them; so that all the men of the tower of Shechem died also, about a thousand men and women.
| 49 Y todo el pueblo cortó también cada uno su rama, y siguieron a Abimelec, y las pusieron junto a la fortaleza, y prendieron fuego con ellas a la fortaleza, de modo que todos los de la torre de Siquem murieron, como unos mil hombres y mujeres. | 49 Da hieb jeder vom Volk einen Ast ab, und sie folgten Abimelech und legten die Äste auf das Gewölbe und setzten über ihnen das Gewölbe in Brand, so daß auch alle in der Burg von Sichem starben, etwa tausend Männer und Frauen. |

Then went Abimelech to Thebez, and encamped against Thebez, and took it.

But there was a strong tower within the city, and thither fled all the men and women, and all they of the city, and shut it to them, and gat them up to the top of the tower.

Dahin flohen alle Männer und Frauen und alle Bürger der Stadt, schlossen hinter sich zu und stiegen auf das Dach der Burg. |

And Abimelech came unto the tower, and fought against it, and went hard unto the door of the tower to burn it with fire.
| 52 Y vino Abimelec a la torre, y combatiéndola, llegó hasta la puerta de la torre para prenderle fuego. | 52 Da kam Abimelech zur Burg und kämpfte gegen sie und näherte sich dem Burgtor, um es mit Feuer zu verbrennen. |

And a certain woman cast a piece of a millstone upon Abimelech's head, and all to brake his skull.
| 53 Mas una mujer dejó caer un pedazo de una rueda de molino sobre la cabeza de Abimelec, y le rompió el cráneo. | 53 Aber eine Frau warf einen Mühlstein Abimelech auf den Kopf und zerschmetterte ihm den Schädel. |

Then he called hastily unto the young man his armourbearer, and said unto him, Draw thy sword, and slay me, that men say not of me, A woman slew him. And his young man thrust him through, and he died.
| 54 Entonces llamó apresuradamente a su escudero, y le dijo: Saca tu espada y mátame, para que no se diga de mí: Una mujer lo mató. Y su escudero le atravesó, y murió. | 54 Da rief Abimelech eilends seinen Waffenträger herbei und sprach zu ihm: Zieh dein Schwert und töte mich, daß man nicht von mir sage: Ein Weib hat ihn erschlagen. Da durchstach ihn sein Waffenträger, und er starb. |

And when the men of Israel saw that Abimelech was dead, they departed every man unto his place.

Thus God rendered the wickedness of Abimelech, which he did unto his father, in slaying his seventy brethren:
| 56 Así pagó Dios a Abimelec el mal que hizo contra su padre, matando a sus setenta hermanos. | 56 So vergalt Gott dem Abimelech das Böse, das er seinem Vater angetan hatte, als er seine siebzig Brüder tötete. |

And all the evil of the men of Shechem did God render upon their heads: and upon them came the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal. | 57 Y todo el mal de los hombres de Siquem lo hizo Dios volver sobre sus cabezas, y vino sobre ellos la maldición de Jotam hijo de Jerobaal. | 57 Desgleichen alle bösen Taten der Männer von Sichem vergalt ihnen Gott auf ihren Kopf, und es kam über sie der Fluch Jotams, des Sohnes Jerubbaals. |
