Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity builded the temple unto the LORD God of Israel;

Then they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esar-haddon king of Assur, which brought us up hither.
| 2 vinieron a Zorobabel y a los jefes de casas paternas, y les dijeron: Edificaremos con vosotros, porque como vosotros buscamos a vuestro Dios, y a él ofrecemos sacrificios desde los días de Esar-hadón rey de Asiria, que nos hizo venir aquí. | 2 kamen sie zu Serubbabel, Jeschua und den Sippenhäuptern und sprachen zu ihnen: Wir wollen mit euch bauen; denn auch wir suchen euren Gott und haben ihm geopfert seit der Zeit Asarhaddons, des Königs von Assur, der uns hierher gebracht hat. |

But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the chief of the fathers of Israel, said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build an house unto our God; but we ourselves together will build unto the LORD God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us.
| 3 Zorobabel, Jesúa, y los demás jefes de casas paternas de Israel dijeron: No nos conviene edificar con vosotros casa a nuestro Dios, sino que nosotros solos la edificaremos a Jehová Dios de Israel, como nos mandó el rey Ciro, rey de Persia. | 3 Aber Serubbabel und Jeschua und die andern Häupter der Sippen in Israel antworteten ihnen: Es ziemt sich nicht, daß ihr und wir miteinander das Haus unseres Gottes bauen, sondern wir allein wollen bauen dem HERRN, dem Gott Israels, wie uns Kyrus, der König von Persien, geboten hat. |

Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building,

And hired aBEL-MEHOLaH against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.

And in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, wrote they unto him an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.

And in the days of Artaxerxes wrote Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of their companions, unto Artaxerxes king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in the Syrian tongue, and interpreted in the Syrian tongue.

Rehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king in this sort:

Then wrote Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions; the Dinaites, the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the Apharsites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Susanchites, the Dehavites, and the Elamites,

And the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Asnappar brought over, and set in the cities of Samaria, and the rest that are on this side the river, and at such a time.
| 10 y los demás pueblos que el grande y glorioso Asnapar transportó e hizo habitar en las ciudades de Samaria y las demás provincias del otro lado del río. | 10 und die andern Völker, die der große und berühmte Asenappar* hergebracht und in den Städten Samariens und in den andern Orten jenseits des Euphrat* angesiedelt hat. *Asenappar ist Asarhaddon (Vers 2). This is the copy of the letter that they sent unto him, even unto Artaxerxes the king; Thy servants the men on this side the river, and at such a time.

Be it known unto the king, that the Jews which came up from thee to us are come unto Jerusalem, building the rebellious and the bad city, and have set up the walls thereof, and joined the foundations.
| 12 Sea notorio al rey, que los judíos que subieron de ti a nosotros vinieron a Jerusalén; y edifican la ciudad rebelde y mala, y levantan los muros y reparan los fundamentos. | 12 Und nun sei dem König kundgetan, daß die Juden, die von dir heraufgezogen und zu uns nach Jerusalem gekommen sind, die aufrührerische und böse Stadt wieder aufbauen wollen; sie haben begonnen, die Mauern zu errichten, und die Fundamente sind schon gelegt. |

Be it known now unto the king, that, if this city be builded, and the walls set up again, then will they not pay toll, tribute, and custom, and so thou shalt endamage the revenue of the kings.
| 13 Ahora sea notorio al rey, que si aquella ciudad fuere reedificada, y los muros fueren levantados, no pagarán tributo, impuesto y rentas, y el erario de los reyes será menoscabado. | 13 So sei nun dem König kundgetan: Wenn diese Stadt wieder aufgebaut wird und die Mauern wieder errichtet werden, so werden sie Steuern, Abgaben und Zoll nicht mehr geben, und zuletzt wird es den Königen Schaden bringen. |

Now because we have maintenance from the king's palace, and it was not meet for us to see the king's dishonour, therefore have we sent and certified the king;
| 14 Siendo que nos mantienen del palacio, no nos es justo ver el menosprecio del rey, por lo cual hemos enviado a hacerlo saber al rey, | 14 Weil wir aber das Salz des Königshauses essen und die Schmach des Königs nicht länger sehen wollen, darum schicken wir hin und lassen es den König wissen. |

That search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time: for which cause was this city destroyed.
| 15 para que se busque en el libro de las memorias de tus padres. Hallarás en el libro de las memorias, y sabrás que esta ciudad es ciudad rebelde, y perjudicial a los reyes y a las provincias, y que de tiempo antiguo forman en medio de ella rebeliones, por lo que esta ciudad fue destruida. | 15 Man lasse in den Chroniken deiner Väter suchen, so wirst du in den Chroniken finden und erfahren, daß diese Stadt aufrührerisch ist und Königen und Ländern Schaden gebracht hat und man in ihr auch von alters her Aufruhr gemacht hat, - darum ist diese Stadt auch zerstört worden. |

We certify the king that, if this city be builded again, and the walls thereof set up, by this means thou shalt have no portion on this side the river.
| 16 Hacemos saber al rey que si esta ciudad fuere reedificada, y levantados sus muros, la región de más allá del río no será tuya. | 16 Und nun tun wir dem König kund, daß du hernach nichts behalten wirst von dem, was jenseits des Euphrat liegt, wenn diese Stadt wieder aufgebaut wird und ihre Mauern wieder errichtet werden. |

Then sent the king an answer unto Rehum the chancellor, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and unto the rest beyond the river, Peace, and at such a time.
| 17 El rey envió esta respuesta: A Rehum canciller, a Simsai secretario, a los demás compańeros suyos que habitan en Samaria, y a los demás del otro lado del río: Salud y paz. | 17 Da sandte der König folgende Antwort: An Rehum, den Kanzler, und Schimschai, den Schreiber, und ihre andern Genossen, die in Samaria wohnen und in den andern Orten jenseits des Euphrat: Friede zuvor! |

The letter which ye sent unto us hath been plainly read before me.
| 18 La carta que nos enviasteis fue leída claramente delante de mí. | 18 Und nun, der Brief, den ihr uns zugeschickt habt, ist mir Wort für Wort vorgelesen worden. |

And I commanded, and search hath been made, and it is found that this city of old time hath made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made therein.
| 19 Y por mí fue dada orden y buscaron; y hallaron que aquella ciudad de tiempo antiguo se levanta contra los reyes y se rebela, y se forma en ella sedición; | 19 Und auf meinen Befehl hat man nachgeforscht, und man fand bestätigt, daß diese Stadt von alters her gegen die Könige sich empört hat und Aufruhr und Abfall in ihr geschehen ist. |

There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, which have ruled over all countries beyond the river; and toll, tribute, and custom, was paid unto them.
| 20 y que hubo en Jerusalén reyes fuertes que dominaron en todo lo que hay más allá del río, y que se les pagaba tributo, impuesto y rentas. | 20 Auch hat es mächtige Könige zu Jerusalem gegeben, die geherrscht haben über alles, was jenseits des Euphrat ist, so daß ihnen Steuern, Abgaben und Zoll gegeben wurden. |

Give ye now commandment to cause these men to cease, and that this city be not builded, until another commandment shall be given from me.
| 21 Ahora, pues, dad orden que cesen aquellos hombres, y no sea esa ciudad reedificada hasta que por mí sea dada nueva orden. | 21 So gebt nun den Befehl, daß man diesen Männern wehre, damit die Stadt nicht wieder aufgebaut werde, bis von mir der Befehl gegeben wird! |

Take heed now that ye fail not to do this: why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?
| 22 Y mirad que no seáis negligentes en esto; żpor qué habrá de crecer el dańo en perjuicio de los reyes? | 22 Seht euch vor, daß ihr nicht lässig hierin seid, damit nicht den Königen großer Schaden entstehe! |

Now when the copy of king Artaxerxes' letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power.
| 23 Entonces, cuando la copia de la carta del rey Artajerjes fue leída delante de Rehum, y de Simsai secretario y sus compańeros, fueron apresuradamente a Jerusalén a los judíos, y les hicieron cesar con poder y violencia. | 23 Als nun der Brief des Königs Artahsasta gelesen wurde von Rehum und dem Schreiber Schimschai und von ihren andern Genossen, zogen sie eilends hin nach Jerusalem zu den Juden und wehrten ihnen mit Gewalt. |

Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem. So it ceased unto the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia. | 24 Entonces cesó la obra de la casa de Dios que estaba en Jerusalén, y quedó suspendida hasta el ańo segundo del reinado de Darío rey de Persia. | 24 Da hörte die Arbeit am Hause Gottes in Jerusalem auf und blieb liegen bis ins zweite Jahr des Darius, des Königs von Persien. |
