And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.

And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink.
| 3 Pero no pudiendo ocultarle más tiempo, tomó una arquilla de juncos y la calafateó con asfalto y brea, y colocó en ella al niño y lo puso en un carrizal a la orilla del río. | 3 Als sie ihn aber nicht länger verbergen konnte, machte sie ein Kästlein von Rohr und verklebte es mit Erdharz und Pech und legte das Kind hinein und setzte das Kästlein in das Schilf am Ufer des Nils. |

And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him.
| 4 Y una hermana suya se puso a lo lejos, para ver lo que le acontecería. | 4 Aber seine Schwester stand von ferne, um zu erfahren, wie es ihm ergehen würde. |

And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it.
| 5 Y la hija de Faraón descendió a lavarse al río, y paseándose sus doncellas por la ribera del río, vio ella la arquilla en el carrizal, y envió una criada suya a que la tomase. | 5 Und die Tochter des Pharao ging hinab und wollte baden im Nil, und ihre Gespielinnen gingen am Ufer hin und her. Und als sie das Kästlein im Schilf sah, sandte sie ihre Magd hin und ließ es holen. |

And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews' children.
| 6 Y cuando la abrió, vio al niño; y he aquí que el niño lloraba. Y teniendo compasión de él, dijo: De los niños de los hebreos es éste. | 6 Und als sie es auftat, sah sie das Kind, und siehe, das Knäblein weinte. Da jammerte es sie, und sie sprach: Es ist eins von den hebräischen Kindlein. |

Then said his sister to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?
| 7 Entonces su hermana dijo a la hija de Faraón: ¿Iré a llamarte una nodriza de las hebreas, para que te críe este niño? | 7 Da sprach seine Schwester zu der Tochter des Pharao: Soll ich hingehen und eine der hebräischen Frauen rufen, die da stillt, daß sie dir das Kindlein stille? |

And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child's mother.
| 8 Y la hija de Faraón respondió: Ve. Entonces fue la doncella, y llamó a la madre del niño, | 8 Die Tochter des Pharao sprach zu ihr: Geh hin. Das Mädchen ging hin und rief die Mutter des Kindes. |

And Pharaoh's daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it.
| 9 a la cual dijo la hija de Faraón: Lleva a este niño y críamelo, y yo te lo pagaré. Y la mujer tomó al niño y lo crió. | 9 Da sprach die Tochter des Pharao zu ihr: Nimm das Kindlein mit und stille es mir; ich will es dir lohnen. Die Frau nahm das Kind und stillte es. |

And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.
| 10 Y cuando el niño creció, ella lo trajo a la hija de Faraón, la cual lo prohijó, y le puso por nombre Moisés, diciendo: Porque de las aguas lo saqué. | 10 Und als das Kind groß war, brachte sie es der Tochter des Pharao, und es ward ihr Sohn, und sie nannte ihn Mose; denn sie sprach: Ich habe ihn aus dem Wasser gezogen. |

And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.
| 11 En aquellos días sucedió que crecido ya Moisés, salió a sus hermanos, y los vio en sus duras tareas, y observó a un egipcio que golpeaba a uno de los hebreos, sus hermanos. | 11 Zu der Zeit, als Mose groß geworden war, ging er hinaus zu seinen Brüdern und sah ihren Frondienst und nahm wahr, daß ein Ägypter einen seiner hebräischen Brüder schlug. |

And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.
| 12 Entonces miró a todas partes, y viendo que no parecía nadie, mató al egipcio y lo escondió en la arena. | 12 Da schaute er sich nach allen Seiten um, und als er sah, daß kein Mensch da war, erschlug er den Ägypter und verscharrte ihn im Sande. |

And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?
| 13 Al día siguiente salió y vio a dos hebreos que reñían; entonces dijo al que maltrataba al otro: ¿Por qué golpeas a tu prójimo? | 13 Am andern Tage ging er wieder hinaus und sah zwei hebräische Männer miteinander streiten und sprach zu dem, der im Unrecht war: Warum schlägst du deinen Nächsten? |

And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.
| 14 Y él respondió: ¿Quién te ha puesto a ti por príncipe y juez sobre nosotros? ¿Piensas matarme como mataste al egipcio? Entonces Moisés tuvo miedo, y dijo: Ciertamente esto ha sido descubierto. | 14 Er aber sprach: Wer hat dich zum Aufseher oder Richter über uns gesetzt? Willst du mich auch umbringen, wie du den Ägypter umgebracht hast? Da fürchtete sich Mose und sprach: Wie ist das bekannt geworden? |

Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.
| 15 Oyendo Faraón acerca de este hecho, procuró matar a Moisés; p8ero Moisés huyó de delante de Faraón, y habitó en la tierra de Madián. | 15 Und es kam vor den Pharao; der trachtete danach, Mose zu töten. Aber Mose floh vor dem Pharao und hielt sich auf im Lande Midian. Und er setzte sich nieder bei einem Brunnen. |

Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters: and they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.
| 16 Y estando sentado junto al pozo, siete hijas que tenía el sacerdote de Madián vinieron a sacar agua para llenar las pilas y dar de beber a las ovejas de su padre. | 16 Der Priester aber in Midian hatte sieben Töchter; die kamen, Wasser zu schöpfen, und füllten die Rinnen, um die Schafe ihres Vaters zu tränken. |

And the shepherds came and drove them away: but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.
| 17 Mas los pastores vinieron y las echaron de allí; entonces Moisés se levantó y las defendió, y dio de beber a sus ovejas. | 17 Da kamen Hirten und stießen sie weg. Mose aber stand auf und half ihnen und tränkte ihre Schafe. |

And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon to day?
| 18 Y volviendo ellas a Reuel su padre, él les dijo: ¿Por qué habéis venido hoy tan pronto? | 18 Und als sie zu ihrem Vater Reguïl kamen, sprach er: Warum seid ihr heute so bald gekommen? |

And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also drew water enough for us, and watered the flock.
| 19 Ellas respondieron: Un varón egipcio nos defendió de mano de los pastores, y también nos sacó el agua, y dio de beber a las ovejas. | 19 Sie sprachen: Ein ägyptischer Mann stand uns bei gegen die Hirten und schöpfte für uns und tränkte die Schafe. |

And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? why is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat bread.
| 20 Y dijo a sus hijas: ¿Dónde está? ¿Por qué habéis dejado a ese hombre? Llamadle para que coma. | 20 Er sprach zu seinen Töchtern: Wo ist er? Warum habt ihr den Mann draußen gelassen? Ladet ihn doch ein, mit uns zu essen. |

And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.
| 21 Y Moisés convino en morar con aquel varón; y él dio su hija Séfora por mujer a Moisés. | 21 Und Mose willigte ein, bei dem Mann zu bleiben. Und er gab Mose seine Tochter Zippora zur Frau. |

And she bare him a son, and he called his name Gershom: for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land.
| 22 Y ella le dio a luz un hijo; y él le puso por nombre Gersón, porque dijo: Forastero soy en tierra ajena. | 22 Die gebar einen Sohn, und er nannte ihn Gerschom; denn, sprach er, ich bin ein Fremdling geworden im fremden Lande. |

And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.
| 23 Aconteció que después de muchos días murió el rey de Egipto, y los hijos de Israel gemían a causa de la servidumbre, y clamaron; y subió a Dios el clamor de ellos con motivo de su servidumbre. | 23 Lange Zeit aber danach starb der König von Ägypten. Und die Israeliten seufzten über ihre Knechtschaft und schrien, und ihr Schreien über ihre Knechtschaft kam vor Gott. |

And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
| 24 Y oyó Dios el gemido de ellos, y se acordó de su pacto con Abraham, Isaac y Jacob. | 24 Und Gott erhörte ihr Wehklagen und gedachte seines Bundes mit Abraham, Isaak und Jakob. |

And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them. | 25 Y miró Dios a los hijos de Israel, y los reconoció Dios. | 25 Und Gott sah auf die Israeliten und nahm sich ihrer an. |
