In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened,

And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low;

Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:
| 5 cuando también temerán de lo que es alto, y habrá terrores en el camino; y florecerá el almendro, y la langosta será una carga, y se perderá el apetito; porque el hombre va a su morada eterna, y los endechadores andarán alrededor por las calles; | 5 wenn man vor Höhen sich fürchtet und sich ängstigt auf dem Wege, wenn der Mandelbaum blüht und die Heuschrecke sich belädt und die Kaper aufbricht; denn der Mensch fährt dahin, wo er ewig bleibt, und die Klageleute gehen umher auf der Gasse; - |

Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.

Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.

And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.
| 9 Y cuanto más sabio fue el Predicador, tanto más enseñó sabiduría al pueblo; e hizo escuchar, e hizo escudriñar, y compuso muchos proverbios. | 9 Es bleibt noch übrig zu sagen: Der Prediger war ein Weiser und lehrte auch das Volk gute Lehre, und er erwog und forschte und dichtete viele Sprüche. |

The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.
| 10 Procuró el Predicador hallar palabras agradables, y escribir rectamente palabras de verdad. | 10 Er suchte, daß er fände angenehme Worte und schriebe recht die Worte der Wahrheit. |

The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.
| 11 Las palabras de los sabios son como aguijones; y como clavos hincados son las de los maestros de las congregaciones, dadas por un Pastor. | 11 Die Worte der Weisen sind wie Stacheln, und wie eingeschlagene Nägel sind die einzelnen Sprüche; sie sind von einem Hirten gegeben. |

And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
| 13 El fin de todo el discurso oído es este: Teme a Dios, y guarda sus mandamientos; porque esto es el todo del hombre. | 13 Laßt uns die Hauptsumme aller Lehre hören: Fürchte Gott und halte seine Gebote; denn das gilt für alle Menschen. |

For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. | 14 Porque Dios traerá toda obra a juicio, juntamente con toda cosa encubierta, sea buena o sea mala. | 14 Denn Gott wird alle Werke vor Gericht bringen, alles, was verborgen ist, es sei gut oder böse. |
