And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his stead.

Then said David, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father shewed kindness unto me. And David sent to comfort him by the hand of his servants for his father. And David's servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.
| 2 Y dijo David: Yo haré misericordia con Hanún hijo de Nahas, como su padre la hizo conmigo. Y envió David sus siervos para consolarlo por su padre. And the princes of the children of Ammon said unto Hanun their lord, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? hath not David rather sent his servants unto thee, to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?
| 3 los príncipes de los hijos de Amón dijeron a Hanún su seńor: żTe parece que por honrar David a tu padre te ha enviado consoladores? żNo ha enviado David sus siervos a ti para reconocer e inspeccionar la ciudad, para destruirla? | 3 sprachen die Obersten der Ammoniter zu ihrem Herrn Hanun: Meinst du, daß David deinen Vater vor deinen Augen ehren wolle, wenn er Tröster zu dir gesandt hat? Meinst du nicht, daß er dazu seine Boten zu dir gesandt hat, damit er die Stadt erforsche und erkunde und zerstöre? |

Wherefore Hanun took David's servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.
| 4 Entonces Hanún tomó los siervos de David, les rapó la mitad de la barba, les cortó los vestidos por la mitad hasta las nalgas, y los despidió. | 4 Da nahm Hanun die Gesandten Davids und ließ ihnen den Bart halb abscheren und die Kleider halb abschneiden bis unter den Gürtel und ließ sie gehen. |

When they told it unto David, he sent to meet them, because the men were greatly ashamed: and the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.
| 5 Cuando se le hizo saber esto a David, envió a encontrarles, porque ellos estaban en extremo avergonzados; y el rey mandó que les dijeran: Quedaos en Jericó hasta que os vuelva a nacer la barba, y entonces volved. | 5 Als das David angesagt wurde, sandte er ihnen Boten entgegen; denn die Männer waren sehr geschändet. Und der König ließ ihnen sagen: Bleibt in Jericho, bis euer Bart gewachsen ist; dann kommt zurück. |

And when the children of Ammon saw that they stank before David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth-rehob, and the Syrians of Zoba, twenty thousand footmen, and of king Maacah a thousand men, and of Ish-tob twelve thousand men.
| 6 Y viendo los hijos de Amón que se habían hecho odiosos a David, enviaron los hijos de Amón y tomaron a sueldo a los sirios de Bet-rehob y a los sirios de Soba, veinte mil hombres de a pie, del rey de Maaca mil hombres, y de Is-tob doce mil hombres. | 6 Als aber die Ammoniter sahen, daß sie sich bei David in Verruf gebracht hatten, sandten sie hin und warben an die Aramäer von Bet-Rehob und die Aramäer von Zoba, zwanzigtausend Mann Fußvolk, und von dem König von Maacha tausend Mann und von Tob zwölftausend Mann. |

And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.
| 7 Cuando David oyó esto, envió a Joab con todo el ejército de los valientes. | 7 Als das David hörte, sandte er Joab mit dem ganzen Heer der Kriegsleute. |

And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entering in of the gate: and the Syrians of Zoba, and of Rehob, and Ish-tob, and Maacah, were by themselves in the field.
| 8 Y saliendo los hijos de Amón, se pusieron en orden de batalla a la entrada de la puerta; pero los sirios de Soba, de Rehob, de Is-tob y de Maaca estaban aparte en el campo. | 8 Und die Ammoniter zogen aus und stellten sich auf zum Kampf vor dem Eingang des Tores. Die Aramäer aber von Zoba, von Rehob, von Tob und von Maacha standen für sich auf freiem Feld. |

When Joab saw that the front of the battle was against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians:
| 9 Viendo, pues, Joab que se le presentaba la batalla de frente y a la retaguardia, entresacó de todos los escogidos de Israel, y se puso en orden de batalla contra los sirios. | 9 Als Joab nun sah, daß der Angriff gegen ihn gerichtet war von vorn und von hinten, wählte er aus der ganzen jungen Mannschaft in Israel einen Teil aus und stellte sich den Aramäern entgegen. |

And the rest of the people he delivered into the hand of Abishai his brother, that he might put them in array against the children of Ammon.
| 10 Entregó luego el resto del ejército en mano de Abisai su hermano, y lo alineó para encontrar a los amonitas. | 10 Und das übrige Kriegsvolk tat er unter die Hand seines Bruders Abischai, daß er sie gegen die Ammoniter aufstelle, |

And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will come and help thee.
| 11 Y dijo: Si los sirios pudieren más que yo, tú me ayudarás; y si los hijos de Amón pudieren más que tú, yo te daré ayuda. | 11 und sprach: Werden mir die Aramäer überlegen sein, so komm mir zu Hilfe; werden aber die Ammoniter dir überlegen sein, so will ich dir zu Hilfe kommen. |

Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the LORD do that which seemeth him good.
| 12 Esfuérzate, y esforcémonos por nuestro pueblo, y por las ciudades de nuestro Dios; y haga Jehová lo que bien le pareciere. | 12 Sei ganz getrost, damit wir die Stärkeren bleiben für unser Volk und die Städte unseres Gottes. Der HERR aber tue, was ihm gefällt. |

And Joab drew nigh, and the people that were with him, unto the battle against the Syrians: and they fled before him.
| 13 Y se acercó Joab, y el pueblo que con él estaba, para pelear contra los sirios; mas ellos huyeron delante de él. | 13 Und Joab rückte an mit dem Volk, das bei ihm war, um gegen die Aramäer zu kämpfen, und sie flohen vor ihm. |

And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, then fled they also before Abishai, and entered into the city. So Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.
| 14 Entonces los hijos de Amón, viendo que los sirios habían huido, huyeron también ellos delante de Abisai, y se refugiaron en la ciudad. Se volvió, pues, Joab de luchar contra los hijos de Amón, y vino a Jerusalén. | 14 Und als die Ammoniter sahen, daß die Aramäer flohen, flohen sie auch vor Abischai in die Stadt hinein. Da ließ Joab ab von den Ammonitern und kam nach Jerusalem. |

And when the Syrians saw that they were smitten before Israel, they gathered themselves together.
| 15 Pero los sirios, viendo que habían sido derrotados por Israel, se volvieron a reunir. | 15 Und als die Aramäer sahen, daß sie von Israel geschlagen waren, sammelten sie sich. |

And Hadarezer sent, and brought out the Syrians that were beyond the river: and they came to Helam; and Shobach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.
| 16 Y envió Hadad-ezer e hizo salir a los sirios que estaban al otro lado del Eufrates, los cuales vinieron a Helam, llevando por jefe a Sobac, general del ejército de Hadad-ezer. | 16 Und Hadad-Eser sandte hin und ließ die Aramäer jenseits des Stromes in den Kampf ziehen, und sie kamen nach Helam, und Schobach, der Feldhauptmann Hadad-Esers, an ihrer Spitze. |

And when it was told David, he gathered all Israel together, and passed over Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians set themselves in array against David, and fought with him.
| 17 Cuando fue dado aviso a David, reunió a todo Israel, y pasando el Jordán vino a Helam; y los sirios se pusieron en orden de batalla contra David y pelearon contra él. | 17 Als das David angesagt wurde, sammelte er ganz Israel und zog über den Jordan und kam nach Helam. Und die Aramäer stellten sich gegen David auf, um mit ihm zu kämpfen. |

And the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew the men of seven hundred chariots of the Syrians, and forty thousand horsemen, and smote Shobach the captain of their host, who died there.
| 18 Mas los sirios huyeron delante de Israel; y David mató de los sirios a la gente de setecientos carros, y cuarenta mil hombres de a caballo; hirió también a Sobac general del ejército, quien murió allí. | 18 Aber die Aramäer flohen vor Israel, und David vernichtete von den Aramäern siebenhundert Wagen und vierzigtausend Mann; und Schobach, den Feldhauptmann, erschlug er, daß er dort starb. |

And when all the kings that were servants to Hadarezer saw that they were smitten before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Syrians feared to help the children of Ammon any more. | 19 Viendo, pues, todos los reyes que ayudaban a Hadad-ezer, cómo habían sido derrotados delante de Israel, hicieron paz con Israel y le sirvieron; y de allí en adelante los sirios temieron ayudar más a los hijos de Amón. | 19 Als aber alle Könige, die unter Hadad- Eser waren, sahen, daß sie von Israel geschlagen waren, machten sie Frieden mit Israel und wurden ihm untertan. Und die Aramäer fürchteten sich, den Ammonitern hinfort zu helfen. |
