Now it came to pass after this, that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his stead.

And David said, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father shewed kindness to me. And David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. So the servants of David came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.
| 2 Y dijo David: Manifestaré misericordia con Hanún hijo de Nahas, porque también su padre me mostró misericordia. Así David envió embajadores que lo consolasen de la muerte de su padre. Pero cuando llegaron los siervos de David a la tierra de los hijos de Amón a Hanún, para consolarle, | 2 Da dachte David: Ich will Hanun, dem Sohn des Nahasch, Freundschaft erweisen, denn sein Vater hat mir Freundschaft erwiesen, und sandte Boten hin, ihn zu trösten über seinen Vater. Und als die Gesandten Davids ins Land der Ammoniter kamen zu Hanun, ihn zu trösten, |

But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? are not his servants come unto thee for to search, and to overthrow, and to spy out the land?
| 3 los príncipes de los hijos de Amón dijeron a Hanún: ¿A tu parecer honra David a tu padre, que te ha enviado consoladores? ¿No vienen más bien sus siervos a ti para espiar, e inquirir, y reconocer la tierra? | 3 sprachen die Obersten der Ammoniter zu Hanun: Meinst du, daß David deinen Vater vor deinen Augen ehren wolle, wenn er Tröster zu dir gesandt hat? Sind seine Gesandten nicht vielmehr zu dir gekommen, um das Land zu erforschen, zu erkunden und auszuspähen? |

Wherefore Hanun took David's servants, and shaved them, and cut off their garments in the midst hard by their buttocks, and sent them away.
| 4 Entonces Hanún tomó los siervos de David y los rapó, y les cortó los vestidos por la mitad, hasta las nalgas, y los despachó. | 4 Da nahm Hanun die Gesandten Davids und schor sie und schnitt ihre Kleider halb ab bis an die Lenden und ließ sie gehen. |

Then there went certain, and told David how the men were served. And he sent to meet them: for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.
| 5 Se fueron luego, y cuando llegó a David la noticia sobre aquellos varones, él envió a recibirlos, porque estaban muy afrentados. El rey mandó que les dijeran: Estaos en Jericó hasta que os crezca la barba, y entonces volveréis. | 5 Und sie gingen weg, und man berichtete David über die Männer. Er aber sandte ihnen entgegen, denn die Männer waren sehr geschändet. Und der König ließ ihnen sagen: Bleibt in Jericho, bis euer Bart gewachsen ist; dann kommt zurück. |

And when the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire them chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, and out of Syria-maachah, and out of Zobah.
| 6 Y viendo los hijos de Amón que se habían hecho odiosos a David, Hanún y los hijos de Amón enviaron mil talentos de plata para tomar a sueldo carros y gente de a caballo de Mesopotamia, de Siria, de Maaca y de Soba. | 6 Als aber die Ammoniter sahen, daß sie bei David in Verruf gekommen waren, sandten Hanun und die Ammoniter tausend Zentner Silber, um Männer mit Streitwagen und Reiter anzuwerben in Mesopotamien, im Aramäerland von Maacha und in Zoba. |

So they hired thirty and two thousand chariots, and the king of Maachah and his people; who came and pitched before Medeba. And the children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle.
| 7 Y tomaron a sueldo treinta y dos mil carros, y al rey de Maaca y a su ejército, los cuales vinieron y acamparon delante de Medeba. Y se juntaron también los hijos de Amón de sus ciudades, y vinieron a la guerra. | 7 Und sie warben zweiunddreißigtausend Männer mit Streitwagen an und den König von Maacha mit seinem Volk. Die kamen und lagerten sich vor Medeba. Und die Ammoniter sammelten sich auch aus ihren Städten und kamen zum Kampf. |

And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.

And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array before the gate of the city: and the kings that were come were by themselves in the field.
| 9 Y los hijos de Amón salieron, y ordenaron la batalla a la entrada de la ciudad; y los reyes que habían venido estaban aparte en el campo. | 9 Die Ammoniter aber waren ausgezogen und stellten sich zum Kampf auf vor dem Tor der Stadt. Die Könige aber, die gekommen waren, standen für sich auf freiem Feld. |

Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose out of all the choice of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians.
| 10 Y viendo Joab que el ataque contra él había sido dispuesto por el frente y por la retaguardia, escogió de los más aventajados que había en Israel, y con ellos ordenó su ejército contra los sirios. | 10 Als nun Joab sah, daß vor und hinter ihm sich der Kampf gegen ihn richtete, erwählte er aus der ganzen jungen Mannschaft in Israel einen Teil und stellte sich gegen die Aramäer. |

And the rest of the people he delivered unto the hand of Abishai his brother, and they set themselves in array against the children of Ammon.
| 11 Puso luego el resto de la gente en mano de Abisai su hermano, y los ordenó en batalla contra los amonitas. | 11 Das übrige Kriegsvolk aber tat er unter die Hand seines Bruders Abischai, daß sie sich gegen die Ammoniter stellten, |

And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will help thee.
| 12 Y dijo: Si los sirios fueren más fuertes que yo, tú me ayudarás; y si los amonitas fueren más fuertes que tú, yo te ayudaré. | 12 und sprach: Wenn mir die Aramäer zu stark werden, so komm mir zu Hilfe; wenn aber die Ammoniter dir zu stark werden, will ich dir helfen. |

Be of good courage, and let us behave ourselves valiantly for our people, and for the cities of our God: and let the LORD do that which is good in his sight.
| 13 Esfuérzate, y esforcémonos por nuestro pueblo, y por las ciudades de nuestro Dios; y haga Jehová lo que bien le parezca. | 13 Sei getrost und laß uns getrost handeln für unser Volk und für die Städte unseres Gottes. Der HERR tue, was ihm gefällt! |

So Joab and the people that were with him drew nigh before the Syrians unto the battle; and they fled before him.
| 14 Entonces se acercó Joab y el pueblo que tenía consigo, para pelear contra los sirios; mas ellos huyeron delante de él. | 14 Und Joab rückte vor mit dem Volk, das bei ihm war, gegen die Aramäer zu kämpfen, und sie flohen vor ihm. |

And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, they likewise fled before Abishai his brother, and entered into the city. Then Joab came to Jerusalem.
| 15 Y los hijos de Amón, viendo que los sirios habían huido, huyeron también ellos delante de Abisai su hermano, y entraron en la ciudad. Entonces Joab volvió a Jerusalén. | 15 Als aber die Ammoniter sahen, daß die Aramäer flohen, flohen sie auch vor seinem Bruder Abischai und zogen in die Stadt. Joab aber kam nach Jerusalem. |

And when the Syrians saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they sent messengers, and drew forth the Syrians that were beyond the river: and Shophach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.
| 16 Viendo los sirios que habían caído delante de Israel, enviaron embajadores, y trajeron a los sirios que estaban al otro lado del Eufrates, cuyo capitán era Sofac, general del ejército de Hadad-ezer. | 16 Als aber die Aramäer sahen, daß sie von Israel geschlagen waren, sandten sie Boten hin und ließen auch die Aramäer jenseits des Stromes in den Kampf ziehen. Und Schobach, der Feldhauptmann Hadad-Esers, zog vor ihnen her. |

And it was told David; and he gathered all Israel, and passed over Jordan, and came upon them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in array against the Syrians, they fought with him.
| 17 Luego que fue dado aviso a David, reunió a todo Israel, y cruzando el Jordán vino a ellos, y ordenó batalla contra ellos. Y cuando David hubo ordenado su tropa contra ellos, pelearon contra él los sirios. | 17 Als das David angesagt wurde, sammelte er ganz Israel und zog über den Jordan. Und als er an sie herankam, rüstete er sich gegen sie. Und David stellte sich gegen die Aramäer zum Kampf, und sie kämpften mit ihm. |

But the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians seven thousand men which fought in chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and killed Shophach the captain of the host.
| 18 Mas el pueblo sirio huyó delante de Israel; y mató David de los sirios a siete mil hombres de los carros, y cuarenta mil hombres de a pie; asimismo mató a Sofac general del ejército. | 18 Aber die Aramäer flohen vor Israel. Und David vernichtete von den Aramäern siebentausend Wagen und tötete vierzigtausend Mann zu Fuß; dazu tötete er Schobach, den Feldhauptmann. |

And when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with David, and became his servants: neither would the Syrians help the children of Ammon any more. | 19 Y viendo los siervos de Hadad-ezer que habían caído delante de Israel, concertaron paz con David, y fueron sus siervos; y el pueblo sirio nunca más quiso ayudar a los hijos de Amón. | 19 Als aber die Großen Hadad-Esers sahen, daß sie von Israel geschlagen waren, schlossen sie Frieden mit David und wurden ihm untertan. Und die Aramäer wollten den Ammonitern nicht mehr helfen. |
